grouble Posted Dec 2nd 2011 at 7:07 AM

Today we complete the steps to improve your problem solving ability so that you find the best solutions to your challenges faster and easier.

Step number seven is to "Assign clear responsibility for carrying out the decision and then set a deadline for completion and review." Remember, a decision without a deadline is just a fruitless discussion.

Finally, step number eight is to follow-up, monitor the decision, compare actual results with expected results and then generate new solutions and new courses of action.

So, lets look at the steps in their entirety:

Step #1: Expect/know that you will find a solution so don't stress out!

Step #2: View your problem as nothing more than a "situation" or "challenge" that you WILL overcome.

Step #3: Clearly define the situation in writing from multiple perspectives.

Step #4: Identify ALL of the possible causes without placing blame.

Step #5: Identify ALL possible solutions - as many as you can think of no matter how out there they may be at this point.

Step #6: Make a clear decision on which solution is the best choice and commit to implementing this solution.

Step #7: Assign clear responsibility for executing the pieces of the solution and deadlines for when each piece must be completed by.

Step #8: Follow up, monitor the execution of the solution, track the actual results to the results that you expected, and decide if you will carry out this course of action again in the future.

Take the next 5 minutes decide upon a situation you are currently facing that you will apply this process to.
